Program Overview

Real estate agents and brokers show properties to prospective buyers, negotiate the details of the sale, prepare documentation, and advertise properties listed for sale. In this program, you will gain a basic understanding of the real estate industry and receive hands-on experience to prepare you for a career in this high-demand field. This program includes instruction and review tests to prepare students to take the Utah Real Estate Sales Agent exam. Getting your real estate agent license provides the freedom of self-employment, with financial rewards tailored to your specific goals.

  • Define and describe real property, land, and real estate.
  • Distinguish between real and personal property.
  • Compute basic math skills, including profit and loss, simple interest, proration, commissions, etc.
  • Identify the approved forms and addenda a licensee may fill out and the circumstances when each should be used.
  • Define closing as it relates to a real estate transaction.
  • Differentiate between debits and credits.
  • Explain how it is determined where debits and credits go on the settlement statement.
  • Explain the term “agency” and the different agency types.
  • Use the proper forms of agency, including the relationship between agent, subagent, client, and customer.
  • Compare and contrast the various types of ownership and indicate situations when each would be appropriate or required.

  • After finishing the program, you’ll need to pass the state and national sales agent exam. 
  • To apply for state licensure, you’ll also need a valid U.S. Social Security Number, a clear background check and fingerprint screening, be at least 18 years old, and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A criminal conviction may delay or prevent you from getting licensed. Charges from the last 7 years will show up.

Brett Naisbitt

Brett Naisbitt has been a licensed Real Estate Agent for over 20 years, working full-time with buyers, sellers, and investors. He has worked on management teams for three of the largest brokerages in the state of Utah, giving him experience in almost every aspect of real estate, including residential, commercial, and new construction. Brett is an active Associate Broker and has completed industry training, certifications, and designations in areas such as Valuation, Marketing, Real Estate Dispositions, Financing, and Transaction Management.
